FROM STAFF REPORTS

ALDI's newest grocery store on Route 43 in Bainbridge Township, just north of the former Geauga Lake Park, will open Aug. 18.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 8:45 a.m. Afterward, the first 100 shoppers will receive golden tickets containing ALDI gift certificates of various amounts.

Customers can tour the store, sample ALDI's exclusive brand products and enter an on-site sweepstakes for a chance to win a year's supply of ALDI produce.

ALDI officials say the stores bring shoppers the best "must-haves" at prices up to 50 percent less than those at traditional grocery stores.

ALDI recently got rid of added MSG, certified synthetic colors and partially hydrogenated oils in all of its exclusive brand food products.

Officials said the Bainbridge store features spacious aisles and checkouts, inviting colors, high ceilings and natural lighting. It was built with environmentally-friendly materials.

It features easy-to-spot product signage and prominent prices. There also are expanded cooler sections, healthy tips in the produce section and "dietitian's picks" (healthy products handpicked by leading nutrition experts).

"As ALDI continues to grow in Northeast Ohio, we are pleased to open this new location to help more smart shoppers stretch their dollars even further," said Hinckley Division Vice President Corey Stucker.

"As important as price is, there's only one way to attract and keep shoppers: You have to have quality products."

ALDI does rigorous testing of all products, and stands behind its quality with a double guarantee -- if for any reason a customer is not 100 percent satisfied with a food product, a replacement and refund are given.

ALDI features a cart rental system, in which shoppers insert a quarter to release a cart and receive the quarter back upon the cart's return.

Other cost-saving practices include a small store footprint, open carton displays and encouragement of customers to bring their own shopping bags.

The Bainbridge location will be open Mondays to Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In the future, ALDI plans to add an average of 130 new locations each year. It boasts about 1,500 stores in 34 states, and serves about 32 million customers a year.
