Aurora Police Reports - Aug. 10

Altercation: Officers responded at midnight July 31 to a report of a disturbance at a local hotel. Police said a Hudson man was passed out on the floor of a hallway, and when two other men tried to help him up, he put one of them in a headlock and knocked the other to the ground. The suspect did not have a room at the hotel, and was told to leave. He and his wife then left. No charges were filed.

Domestic violence: An Aurora man was charged with domestic violence July 29 in the Geauga Lake area after a woman reported he threw something at her and injured her hand the day before. The man was taken to the Portage County Jail.

Domestic dispute: Officers checked out a verbal domestic dispute July 28 in the Geauga Lake area. Police determined nothing physical occurred, and the woman involved agreed to leave for the night.

Marijuana found: An Aurora man turned in a bag he found July 28 on North Aurora Road containing possible marijuana and drug paraphernalia. It was tagged for destruction.

Fraud: A Yorkshire Drive woman reported July 29 that someone filed a tax return in her name. Officers told her to keep watch for any future similar activity.

Harassment: An Aurora woman reported a stalking incident by her adult daughter's ex-boyfriend on July 31. Officers said the man claimed the woman wouldn't give back his dog, and he was advised to pursue the case in civil court.

Equipment theft: A landscaper reported Aug. 1 that a weed whacker valued at $300 was taken from a Grandview Drive lawn. It was discovered the tool was picked up by a neighbor and placed in his garage for safekeeping. It was returned to the owner.

License plate found: A service department employee turned in an Ohio license plate he found. Attempts were made to return it to the owner.

Auto theft: An Aurora man reported that his unlocked vehicle, with the keys inside, was taken from a West Garfield Road location. It later was recovered abandoned in Walton Hills.

TRAFFIC-RELATED CASES

Suspension, drugs: Police stopped an Aurora man on Lake Avenue on July 30 for an equipment violation, and cited him for driving under a failure to reinstate suspension and possessing drug paraphernalia.

Collision: No injuries were reported and no citations were issued July 31 at 5:50 p.m. when police said a Chagrin Falls woman pulled from East Garfield Road onto Eggleston Road and was struck by an Apple Creek woman's vehicle.

Reasonable control citation: An Aurora man was cited for not maintaining reasonable control Aug. 2 at 10:30 p.m. after police said he drove off West Pioneer Trail, then struck a culvert and a tree. He was treated at the scene by Aurora paramedics.

Ignoring traffic signal: A Bedford woman was cited July 31 at 7:40 p.m. for ignoring a traffic signal after police said she went through a red light on North Aurora Road and struck a Chagrin Falls woman's vehicle traveling on Route 82. The Chagrin Falls woman was treated at the scene by Aurora paramedics and the other woman reported no injuries.

Mailbox damage: Police said an Aurora man drove off Route 43 on July 31 at about noon and struck several mailboxes and a detour sign, but did not stop. A witness phoned in the license plate number to police, and an officer found no one at his home, but left a contact card.
