Cagliari president arrested in stadium enquiry

CAGLIARI, Italy (AP) -- Cagliari President Massimo Cellino is one of three men arrested in an ongoing investigation into the construction of Is Arenas stadium.

Cellino is suspected of attempted embezzlement and fraud, along with public works commissioner Stefano Lilliu and Mauro Contini, the mayor of Quartu, where the stadium is located.

Another three people were arrested in November as part of the investigation, and remain under house arrest.

Cellino and Lilliu were taken to Buoncammino prison on Thursday, while Contini is in hospital after falling ill at the police station.

Cagliari moved into Is Arenas this season after opting to leave Stadio Sant'Elia, but has been plagued by problems with the stadium.
