Guild will gather
The Church in Aurora Women’s Guild will meet March 8 at 11:30 a.m. in fellowship hall to discuss the allocation of Nutcracker Sweets funds and hear a fire safety talk by Fire Chief David Barnes.
Circle 3-H will prepare dessert, devotions and table decorations and Twiinz Catering will serve lunch.
A workcamp “complete your project” scrapbooking retreat will be March 2-4. For details, call Dawn Bowen at 330-348-8454.
The 3-H Evening Group will meet March 9 at 6 p.m. in the Eldridge Library to review Chapters 19 to 28 in Billy Graham’s book “Where I Am” and work on prayer shawls and squares and baby blankets.
The third annual parents night out will be March 19. All youngsters who are potty trained through fourth grade will be supervised while their parents take some time off.
The hours are 4 to 7 p.m. and youths will play games, do crafts and eat dinner. If interested, contact Liz Sutter.
A Red Cross blood drive will be March 13 from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. in fellowship hall.
Play-N-Worship returns April 4 for ages 4 and 5 and April 6 for ages 2 and 3 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m.

Mercy Corps is the mission of the month for March. It works to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people built secure, productive and just communities.


Lent will kick off
An Ash Wednesday Mass will take place tonight (March 1) at 7 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Soup suppers and Stations of the Cross for the Lenten season begin March 8 at 6 p.m. and 6:15, respectively. Stations also will be offered on Fridays at noon and 7 p.m.
Cackie Upchurch will speak March 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at a Lenten Day of Reflection. She also will give her reflection at all Masses March 11 and 12.
An evening of reconciliation is planned March 15 at all parishes in the Diocese of Youngstown. It runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and worshippers can receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Charlotte Grace Lonchyna, daughter of John and Melissa, was baptized recently. The next women’s night out will be March 14 at 7 p.m. at Paws restaurant at the Bertram Inn. Make reservations with Shannon at 440-679-1325.


Awards night set

Upward awards night will be March 9 at 6:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Aurora. Participants will enjoy entertainment, cookies and lemonade. Help is needed with audio-visual, setup, teardown and cookies.
The church’s Club 306 youths will attend Winter Jam on March, with a caravan leaving the church at 4 p.m. It will feature 10 Christian music artists. Cost is $10 per person. Contact Pastor Matthew Russell if you have questions.
My First School preschool enrollment is continuing for children ages 2 to 4. Space is filling up fast. Contact director Kelly Mayle for more information. The school’s spring Malley’s candy fundraiser is under way. Brochures are available in the church foyer.


Chapel events set
A pre-trip meeting for the 2017 student mission trip will be March 5 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Room 102 at Christ Community Chapel-Aurora.
The trip will be June 25 to July 1 to Pawley’s Island, S.C. Applications should be completed by March 5. A Red Cross bloodmobile will be March 14 from 2 to 7 p.m.


Music units busy
Lord of Life Lutheran Church’s music groups will be busy during the coming Lenten season. The chancel choir will sing at tonight’s (March 1) 7:30 Ash Wednesday service. In addition, the chancel choir is preparing the beautiful Lenten piece “Hope in the Shadows,” arranged by Lloyd Larson and Joel Raney.
This work focuses on Christ’s final days and journey to the cross, and will be performed at a special Tenebrae service on Good Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Holy Week worship services will feature all of Lord of Life’s other music groups: the handbell choir, men’s choir, Praise Team and contemporary band Atrium.

Lent starts at UM
An Ash Wednesday service will be tonight (March 1) at 7 for members of Aurora United Methodist Church at Solon United Methodist Church, 5540 SOM Center Road to begin the observance of Lent.
Starting March 5 will be “At the Crossroads,” a series of services for Lent. Each service reveals how Christ and his cross lead us to decide the path of God’s will in our many crossroads in life.
Children’s Sunday school for grades 4 to 7 will start March 5 at 9:30 a.m. Contact Leslie Lambertson or Sharon Badertscher for more information. The men of the church will meet March at 7 p.m. at Steak-N-Shake in Bainbridge for fellowship.
